Referral marketing is definitely strong already in social media - look at how well it works in LinkedIn, for example - and commerce in general is becoming less about mass marketing and more about making the most of valuable relaitionships in context. But still it comes down sometimes to understanding people's whereabouts and understanding which companies may be worth forming a relationship with. As platforms like Jigsaw gain more real-time updates I think that their capabilities will merge with context-oriented market platforms to make it easier to execute deals.
I agree. I am in sales (and have been for a while). The net is definately making things easier to try to get the right product to the right person at the right time.
