BACKGROUND
John Buckman is a marketing and
communications consultant with long-standing ties in the
information and publishing industries. His clients have
included both well-known leaders in the field as well as
startups.
Notable engagements include:
o Managing worldwide public relations for Dialog across a
spectrum of core information and vertical markets.
o Devising a branding and identity strategy for document
delivery specialists Infotrieve, and the launch of a customer
communications initiative featuring an e-newsletter.
o Spearheading all external and internal communications for
the merger of Gale Research, Information Access Company and
Primary Source Media.
o Creating worldwide awareness and managing new product
marketing for DataTimes, a pioneer in professional online
information services.
o Producing and writing a series of special features focused
on information and interactive services published in FORTUNE
Magazine.
o Editorial management for Relate Media Inc., a publisher of
customized online magazines and provider of direct e-marketing
services for businesses and membership-based organizations.
As a business writer, Buckman has been widely published,
including in Barron’s, BusinessWeek, Forbes and FORTUNE. For
many years, he wrote a column about technology issues for the
U.K.’s Investor Relations Magazine.
Before his move into consulting in the late 1980s, John was
director of marketing for PR Newswire and a managing editor for
the American Express Company. He also worked as a journalist in
Washington, D.C., London and Johannesburg, South Africa.
Buckman served as on the board of the Software and
Information Industry Association’s Content Division and
currently serves of the board of the MIT Enterprise Forum.
EDUCATION
Mr. Buckman’s has an undergraduate degree in journalism from
The George Washington University with graduate work at The
London School of Economics and Political Science.
